Itinerary

Day One—Thursday: Atlanta to London on Delta Airlines. Dinner and breakfast served aloft.

Day Two—Friday: Arrive London Heathrow where we’ll be met by our Blue Badge guide, Nigel, former Scotland Yard detective. After a tour of Windsor Castle, it’s on to Bristol with “tea-stop” at Littlecote, the Medieval Country Manor built in the 13th century, where Henry VIII courted Jane Seymour. It was also WWII headquarters for divisions of both US Army and Air Force. Back on the coach, we continue west toward the Bristol area for supper and check-in at Tortworth Court, one of England’s most important Victorian Mansions and Country Estates, converted into a Four Pillars Hotel in 2001. Evening: Tour orientation meeting and prayer time.

Day Three—Saturday: A highlight on our tour of Bristol today will be a visit to the Wesley Chapel, where Methodism was founded and where the Wesleys ministered for many years. It was George Whitefield who, having had tremendous success in outdoor meetings, invited John Wesley to come to Bristol in 1739 to “take over my work of preaching to the ‘open-air’ crowds.” Charles eventually would join his brother and it was here that he would write many of his hymns, some of which we will sing, including “And Can It Be?” right where it was first sung! After lunch and time for shopping, another highlight will be a visit to the George Mueller Orphan Homes headquarters where we’ll hear the story of this man of great faith. We’ll sit at his desk and view the intricate records of the thousands of orphans who were under his care. Evening service with fellow believers in a local church.

Day Four—Sunday: A busy day lies ahead as we cross the Severn River into Wales. Our first stop will be at Trefecca, where we’ll get acquainted with Howell Harris and Daniel Rowland, and the mid 1700’s revival that impacted all of Wales. We’ll then journey on to Llandovery for lunch at the Castle Restaurant, after which we’ll visit the William Williams Memorial Chapel where we’ll have a time of worship, singing Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah and other hymns written by Wales’ most famous hymn writer. William Williams also played a significant role in the mid 1700’s revival, along with Harris and Rowland. We’ll end our day of revival memories with a visit to Moriah Chapel in Loughor, where the revival of 1904-05 began. The days of Evan Roberts will come alive as we learn about this visitation of God that added over 100,000 to the church roles of the Welsh churches in six months. We’ll close with a time of worship led by our tour leaders.

Day Five—Monday: A day of travel lies ahead as we journey toward northern Wales and the seaside resort of Llandudno, known as the Queen of Welsh Resorts. En route we’ll make a brief stop in the Roman spa city of Bath, before making a lunch and shopping stop in Bourton-on-the-Water, in the beautiful Cotswold area with its many thatched roofs. Then it’s on to the shores of beautiful Colwyn Bay to check in at Llandudno’s Premier Inn for our one night stay. Supper and evening sharing time at the Queens Hotel with local Revivalists.

Day Six—Tuesday: This morning we drive on to Holyhead for our exciting ferry-crossing of the Irish Sea to Dublin. Arriving on Irish soil, we’ll make our way north to Belfast to check-in at the Hilton Templepatrick Hotel and Country Club, our home for the next three nights. Supper, and time and weather permitting, a round of golf for our golfers?!

Day Seven—Wednesday: Today, we begin with a guided tour of Belfast, including C. S. Lewis sites and the downtown Belfast C. S. Lewis Centenary Memorial Sculpture created by Ross Wilson, an acquaintance, and one of North Ireland’s best known artists. Ross, who is a Believer, may be able to join us. After lunch, and a brief time for shopping, we’ll be accompanied by Ulster Revival historian, Tom Shaw, and his wife Mabel, who’ll lead us on a tour of the revival sites of Connor, and Kells. After dinner, we’ll join local believers for a service where one of our leaders will speak.

Day Eight—Thursday: At the heart of the Ulster (Northern Ireland) Revival were the cities of Ahoghill, Ballymena and Coleraine. The Shaws will again be with us as we visit these sites where over 100,000 came to faith in Christ in the 1859 Revival. After dinner, either a free evening or a service at the Congregational Church in Straid.

Day Nine—Friday: Another ferry crossing lies ahead today as we make our way towards Scotland. After arrival on Scottish soil, we’ll stop in Cambuslang, the site of another mighty revival where on February 15, 1742, the heavens began to open as God visited His people. Thousands came to faith and by 1751 a third of the nation had become members of Scottish churches. William McCulloch was the pastor of the Cambuslang Parish Church during those days, and at Rev. McCulloch’s invitation, George Whitefield preached to over 20,000 at a time. Whitefield wrote that: “Such a universal stir I never saw before.” Carrying these memories with us we drive on to Edinburgh and the Marriott Hotel.

Day Ten—Saturday: Tour of Edinburgh, including St. Giles Cathedral where we’ll recall how greatly God used John Knox. After lunch at the Cathedral we’ll move on to Greyfriars Kirk and Graveyard where we’ll hear some of the stories of the many martyred Scottish Covenanters who are buried here. After a time for shopping, tentative plans are to visit the new location of Charlotte Chapel, once pastored by Alan Redpath and other notable preachers and where, in 1906, there was an unusual manifestation of God’s grace during the ministry of Joseph Kemp who had been impacted by the 1904-05 Welsh Revival. Evening free.

Day Eleven—Sunday: Today we make our way to Dundee to worship with the congregation of St. Peter’s Free Church of Scotland where Robert Murray McCheyne pastored. During his ministry, and that of his close friend, William Chalmers Burns, God was pleased to visit them in a revival that touched all of Scotland. Following the service we’ll have our own group sharing time as we recall the church’s revival history. Then it is on to St. Andrews for a tour of this historic university city with time to shop, and for the golfers, at least a look at the “Old Course.” After dinner an evening service may be arranged.

Day Twelve—Monday: This morning we head south toward the English Lake District, home of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Today will include a tour of the Keswick Convention site and a time of sharing its history with Phil South who, along with his wife Betty and associate, Jenny Beardsmore, oversaw Ron and Kaye Dunn’s UK ministry. We’ll then drive on to Birmingham for our overnight stop at the Holiday In Express.

Day Thirteen—Tuesday: Familiar names and places come alive today as we travel on to Olney and the St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s Parish Church where John Newton pastored for many years, where he wrote most of his hymns, including Amazing Grace, and where he and his wife, Mary, are buried. In addition to hearing a lecture by John Newton historian, Marylynn Rouse, we’ll have a time of worship, singing some of the Newton and William Cowper (who also lived in Olney) hymns. Then it’s on to Bedford, where John Bunyan, while imprisoned for 12 years, wrote Pilgrims Progress that has been translated into over 200 languages. After a tour of the Bunyan Church and museum we’ll be served lunch by the ladies of the church.
Our final stop will be the historic University City of Oxford. Of special interest will be C. S. Lewis sites including Magdalen College and a stroll along “Addison’s Walk” where, on September 19, 1931, J. R. R. Tolkien shared his faith with Lewis who was soon to see his need of a Savior. Also of special interest will be the Martyr’s Memorial, commemorating the burning at the stake, in 1555, of three protestant bishops; Hugh Latimer, Nicholas Ridley and Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury. We’ll also circle, in prayer, a small cobblestone cross in the middle of Broad Street where the actual burning took place, reminding us of what it sometimes costs to remain true to the Faith, even unto death. After a brief time for shopping and a bite to eat, we’ll drive on to London and the Tara Hotel, located near Kensington High Street with it’s shopping, and Kensington Palace where William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their little son, Prince George, live.

Day Fourteen—Wednesday: Morning tour of London’s major sites including Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, the “Changing of the Guard” at Buckingham Palace, Big Ben. After lunch at Westminster Central Hall, across from Big Ben, we take a short walking tour down to the Westminster Pier for a cruise up the Thames River to the Tower of London for a look at the Crown Jewells! Following the Tower tour the evening is free for personal activities such as attend the theater.

Day Fifteen—Thursday: Free day in London! Assistance in deciding today’s activities will be available: Shopping at Harrods, The British Museum, Westminster Abby, Kensington Palace (a ten minute walk from the hotel) etc. We will then meet back at the Tara for dinner, a final sharing time, and a possible “mystery guest.”

Day Sixteen—Friday: This morning we make our way to Heathrow Airport with a mind full of memories and a heart stirred to pray even more fervently that God might once again visit our lands in revival. “Lord, do it again.”
