Manley Beasley explains the GRACE of FAITH
The “grace of faith” is the God-given ability to convert truth into reality and receive a word from God for a particular need. This faith is first evidenced at new birth when, made aware of our need of salvation by the Holy Spirit, we are granted the faith to believe, the ability to exercise faith in proportion to the amount of light we have received. The Bible says that “faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:7).
This “new birth” faith, however, is just the beginning in practicing the “grace of faith” in our lives. As it is in salvation, so does it continue to operate in the daily choices and circumstances of life from that point forward. We are faced with the choice to operate in this manner every time God permits a need in our lives for which we know He has the supply. When the Holy Spirit quickens our hearts to a promise from God’s Word, a promise that relates to our need, God holds us responsible to exercise the “grace of faith.” In it all, however, we must never forget that all of this, every circumstance God takes us through, is designed to bring us into a deeper relationship with a “living person,” the Lord Jesus Christ, not just an historical fact.
We may believe the Bible is inerrant truth, but that does not mean it has become living truth to us. The chasm between belief and experience is bridged by the Holy Spirit when He reveals the truth of God’s Word to us. In Psalm 81:10, God told Israel, “I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth and I will fill it.” God revealed Himself to them and told them exactly what to do. Is God not just as ready to fill our mouths today as He did back then?
